The Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies meet up at Chase Field on Wednesday as the teams play their third game of their season opening series.
The Colorado Rockies are considered among the league’s bottom feeders this season despite having some pretty impressive power in their lineup but the source of their futility is expected to come from their very underwhelming rotation. The Rockies are led by Carlos Gonzalez, Nolan Arenado, Charlie Blackmon, and rookie sensation Trevor Story but with CarGo being a liability thanks to injury concerns, Arenado having a small sample size, and the Coors factor the Rockies are a very tough team to sort out on a nightly basis and don’t have a bona fide ace they can throw in to steal them some games. The Rockies send Tyler Chatwood to the bump as he will face off against Patrick Corbin in a matchup that favours the home side as Arizona is 9-0 in Corbin’s last night starts against the Rockies.

The Diamondbacks meanwhile went all in during the offseason and are expected to do some damage in the NL West and while the loss of AJ Pollock has since put a huge dent in that plan they still have a very good roster led by Paul Goldschmidt. Arizona didn’t fare too well in their season opener when Zach Grienke was on the bump and while they rebounded nicely in yesterday’s game they will need a solid effort out of Corbin here to keep the Colorado offense at bay. As mentioned, the D-Backs tend to show up when Corbin is on the mound as they are 17-7 in his last 24 starts against division opponents and are 35-17 in their last 52 games in which Corbin takes the hill and with this being at home I do like the Diamondbacks to get another victory.
