The Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves wrap up an early two game series in Turner Field on Wednesday with Stephen Strasbourg facing off against Bud Norris.
The Nationals won game one in extra innings with Daniel Murphy providing the go ahead run with a double in the top of the tenth. Bryce Harper and Murphy had homered earlier in the game and then Jason Werth tied it up in the ninth after Michael Taylor's shallow sacrifice fly allowed Werth to score. The Nationals sent Werth from third and he knocked the ball lose on the slide to home as the throw had beaten him there, a play we probably wouldnt have seen from last year's Nationals and one that will give National's fans hope for the season ahead. Dusty Baker's time in charge of the Nationals started with a nail biter but there were definite signs that the ball club is in a position to have a great season. Harper has continued his MVP form straight out of the gate with a homer, two walks and a stolen base. The addition of Murphy to the line up also looks like a smart move and if Danny Espinosa can continue his strong defence then this team is in a position to challenge the Mets to try to reclaim the NL East crown. The Nationals got a solid outing from Max Sherzer in the first game of the series and will be looking for similar here from Strasbourg who has been lights out against the Braves in his last two outings against them not allowing a run over 11 innings with 13 strike outs.

The Atlanta Braves are in the midst of a rebuilding phase. This has all but been acknowledged by the hierarchy of the ball club and they hand the ball to Bud Norris here who was cut from the Baltimore Orioles last season after going 2-9 over 11 starts with an ERA of 7.06. The Braves managed to tough it out on opening day with Freddie Freeman and Adonis Garcia providing the offence with home runs off Max Sherzer. Freddie Freeman is going to be the cornerstone of this Braves team during the rebuild and he has been exceptional against Stephen Strasbourg batting .429 against the Nats ace, the best record of any player with at least 20 at bats against Strasbourg. If Strasbourg can keep Freeman's bat quiet then the Braves will struggle in this one.
At -195 there isnt much value in the Nats straight up here, I think the over/under line represents more value. While the Nats were good on Monday they still struggled to score runs and if Bud Norris can avoid a complete implosion I think the under is a really solid play here. Under is 6-0-1 in the Braves last seven, the under is 7-0 in the Braves last seven against teams with a winning record and the under is 8-0-1 in the Braves last nine against a right handed starter.
Under is 5-0-1 in the last six head to head in Atlanta, Under is 6-0-1 in the Nationals last seven against the NL East and is also 6-0-1 in the Nationals last seven against a right handed starter.
