After sweeping the Angels the Chicago Cubs travel to Chase Field to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks and their stu Paul Goldschmidt.
While Arizona are certainly much more than a one man team there is no douting the importance of Goldschmidt to the team and the franchise. The D-backs first base man was second in NL voting behind Bryce Harper and had an average of .328 on the season best in the league last season. Arizona turn the ball over to Rubby De La Rosa who was pretty poor in spring training giving up almost a run an inning over his last 3 starts and he will be hoping to tighten up on Thursday and have more control while at the mound. The D'backs offence is a work in progress with Jean Segura, Chris Ownings, Jake Lambs finding their place in a line up dominated and led by Goldschmidt. Arizona will be looking forward to testing themselves against the Cubs and Arizona's strong defence is going to meet a big test here against possibly the most potent offence in the league right now.

Chicago dominated against the Angels and will be looking to continue this strong form against the D'backs. The Cubs now turn to their third starter in John Lackey as he makes his Chicago Cubs debut. Lackey struggled through Spring season , similar to De La Rosa, but if he can keep his control and bring his usual focussed game to the mound then the Cubs will have an excellent chance to win. The Cubs line up with Kyle Schwarber, Kris Bryant and of course the brilliant Anthony Rizzo has so much potential that it's pretty tough to bet against them at the moment. Many experts are predicting this Cubs offence to be one of the best ever in baseball and when looking at the raw materials it's hard to argue against that right now.
Cubs are 4-0 in their last 4 against NL West opponents, Cubs are 13-3 in their last 16 away games, Cubs are 18-6 in last 24 game 1 of a series.
The D'backs are 0-7 in their last 7 against the NL central, D'backs are 0-5 in their last 5 starts at home with De La Rosa, D backs are 1-10 in their last 11 against a team with a winning record.
I think we're getting some value on the Cubs here. At -118 the Cubs are definitely the play on Thursday with a strong offence and John Lackey on the mound.
