The Los Angeles Angels look to kick off their series with the Texas Rangers with a victory on Thursday.
The Texas Rangers are out to prove they are the team to beat in the American League West. They didn’t prove it Wednesday with the Mariners scoring five times in the 9th to walk away with a 9-5 victory. Starter Colby Lewis allowed three runs on six hits over six frames before Shawn Tolleson was charged with five 9th inning runs without recording an out to blow the save and absorb the loss. The Rangers logged seven hits and walked twice with Prince Fielder crushing a three run homer for his first of the year while Ryan Rua and Justin Ruggiano drove in a run apiece. Derek Holland gets the ball in the final game of the road series versus the Rangers. In ten starts a year ago Holland went 4-3 with a 4.91 ERA over 58.2 innings of work.

The Los Angeles Angels hope to avoid a slow start to the season and prove 2015 was a fluke. The Angels did nothing to help their cause in a 6-1 defeat at the hands of the visiting Chicago Cubs Tuesday night. The Cubs early offensive burst and a lack of scoring punch from Los Angeles was the difference. Starter Andrew Heaney allowed four runs in the 4th and went six innings with seven hits and a pair of homers allowed in the loss. The bats could do little versus Cubs starter Jon Lester with just four hits and a walk producing an RBI from Craig Gentry with Yunel Escobar. Left hander Hector Santiago gets Thursday’s start against the division rival Rangers. Santiago was 9-9 with a 3.59 ERA in 32 starts a season ago but struggled to go deep in to games late in the year.
The over is 6-1-2 in Texas last 9 road games and is 18-7-3 in their last 28 overall while the under is 10-4-3 in their last 17 Thursday games. Los Angeles are 29-14 in their last 43 Thursday games and the Angels are 8-2 in Santiago’s last 10 home starts. Texas are 8-1 in Holland’s last 9 starts vs. the Angels and the over is 7-1 in Santiago’s last 8 starts vs. Texas. I think the past results says this goes over but the numbers are conflicting…
