After rain cancelled their game on Sunday the Detroit Tigers will open a four game interleague series with the Pittsburgh Pirates and will go with an intruging match up between Jon Neise and Justin Verlander.
The Pittsburgh Pirates opened the season with four wins in a row but dropped their last two to the Cincinnati Reds and now travel to Detroit for 2 games of a 4 game interleague series. The Pirates picked up Jon Niese from the Mets in the off season and he is a good end of rotation guy but in 29 starts last season he only managed nine wins and ten losses. Niese opened up this season giving up five runs to the St. Louis Cardinals and finished with a no decision as the Pirates went on to win the game. The Pirates offence who had been so potent in the first four games has stuttered in the last two managing just two runs but the problem was not getting hits as the team managed 9 but they left 14 players on base and didnt bring any of them home. Andrew Mccutchen, Gregory Polanco and Starling Marte are all off to hot starts for Pittsburgh and if they can get to Justin Verlander early then the Pirates are going to have a good chance to win this game and get back on track after those losses in Cincinnati.

With the Tigers getting an unscheduled day off on Sunday due to the inclement weather, they ill turn their attention to the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates in what should be a really competitive four game series. The Tiger will go with Justin Verlander on the mound and Verlander was impressive in his opening game of the season as he had a no hitter going until the sixth inning. Verlander also has a great record against the Pirates all be it in limited meetings the visitors are hitting just .196 against him. The Tigers opened the season with three wins on the bounce before losing to the Yankees 8-4 on Saturday. Jose Igleseis is off to another hot start hitting .438 with Ian Kinsler and Victor Martinez also playing really well and producing runs for the Tigers.
Pittsburgh are 5-1 in their last 6 game 1 of a series, Pittsburgh are 12-3 in their last 15 interleague games, the Under is 6-1 in the Pirates last seven.
Detroit are 4-1 in their last 5, Over is 6-0 in the Tigers last 7 against the NL Central, Over 9-0 in the Tigers last 9 interleague game.
Great match up and series here and one that could go either way. I'm liking the Pirates here, while I think that Verlander was definitely better in his opener than he was last year I just like what the Pirates are doing offensively and I think they will give Verlander plenty of problems.
