The Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers clash Thursday night at Dodger Stadium.
The Arizona Diamondbacks could use a nice win in order to climb out of a rough 3-6 hole. The issue for the Diamondbacks has been an offense that’s scored three or less runs in four of their last five games. The Arizona Diamondbacks were supposed to be a sleeper pick for the playoffs this season, but they’ve really struggled to find their mojo through the first nine games of the season. Jean Segura leads Arizona with 14 hits, Paul Goldschmidt has nine RBI and Nick Ahmed has three home runs. Robbie Ray gets the nod, and he’s 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA and three strikeouts this season. Ray is 2-2 with a 2.28 ERA and 19 strikeouts in his career against the Dodgers.
USA TODAY Sports
The Los Angeles Dodgers can win their second series of the season with a victory here. The Dodgers have allowed three or less runs in six of their first nine games this season. While the offense hasn’t been nearly as consistent out the gate, the Los Angeles Dodgers are going to be tough to beat if their arms can keep dealing like they have been early. Offensively, Adrian Gonzalez leads Los Angeles with 14 hits, Yasiel Puig has four RBI and Joc Pederson has one home run. Ross Stripling takes the hill, and he’s 0-0 with a 1.23 ERA and four strikeouts this season. This will be Stripling’s first career game against the Diamondbacks.
The Diamondbacks are 1-5 in Rays last 6 road starts and 4-0 in Rays last 4 starts overall. The Dodgers are 25-11 in their last 36 during game 3 of a series and 67-32 in their last 99 home games. The Diamondbacks are 4-15 in the last 19 meetings in Los Angeles.
I was high on the Diamondbacks before the season, but they have to show they can live to the expectations before we can start backing them against other good teams. Until then, you have to side with the Dodgers.
