The Texas Rangers open a series with the visiting Baltimore Orioles in Thursday action.
The red hot Baltimore Orioles were finally cooled for a night in a 4-2 defeat at Fenway Park on Wednesday. Some early struggles on the mound and a lack of key hits was a costly combination. Starter Ubaldo Jimenez was charged with all four runs on six hits and four bases on balls through five innings of work to absorb the loss. The Birds had ample opportunities with nine hits and five free passes with Chris Davis slamming a two run homer with Manny Machado going 3-5 with a pair of doubles and a run. Chris Tillman takes the ball for the third time on the season. Tillman is coming off of a 6-1 victory versus visiting Tampa Bay with a solo homer accounting for the lone run over five innings.

The Texas Rangers are still trying to get going which is not a big deal since it’s so early in the season. The Rangers never got their offense going in a 4-2, ten inning defeat at Seattle on Wednesday so the pitching had to shoulder the load. Starter AJ Griffin allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and four bases on balls before Jake Diekman was charged with a pair of unearned 10th inning runs to absorb the loss. The offense managed six hits and walked twice with Delino DeShields Jr. going 3-5 with a pair of runs with Adrian Beltre driving in a run. Cole Hamels gets his third start of the season against the visiting Orioles Thursday night. In a 2-0 start to 2016 Hamels has given up three runs on eight hits and six walks over 13 innings.
Baltimore are 21-7 in their last 28 games on grass and are 23-9 in their last 32 overall while the over is 5-2-1 in their last 8 Thursday games. The under is 11-4-3 in Texas last 18 Thursday games and the over is 22-10-3 in their last 35 overall while the Rangers are 12-0 in Hamels' last 12 starts on grass. I like what Hamels brings to the table and he has the stuff to at least control the Baltimore attack…
