The Houston Astros look to snap out of their early season funk as they welcome the Detroit Tigers to town on Saturday.
The Detroit Tigers look to stay hot with a win in Houston on Saturday as they send Justin Verlander to the bump and after losing their first road game of the season against Dallas Keuchel yesterday the Tigers aim to get back in the win column against Colin McHugh. The Tigers made a splash in the offseason by acquiring Justin Upton and Jordan Zimmerman and with the bats and arms already on the team the Tigers were considered preseason contenders to win the AL Central and so far they are living up to the hype. Verlander finished last season with some very positive momentum but is off to a very slow start this year with an 0-1 mark and an ERA of 8.71 and things don’t get easier here as the Astros have a very solid hitting lineup and have a pitcher in McHugh who is also looking to shake off a slow start.
USA TODAY Sports
The Houston Astros will look for their second win in as many days against the high octane Tigers and will have a great shot to do so with Verlander on the hill for Detroit and after a low scoring affair yesterday the crowd at Minute Maid can expect to see some fireworks today. The Astros are 47-23 in their last 70 home games and are 10-1 in McHugh’s last 11 home starts against a team with a winning record while the Tigers are 5-2 in Verlander’s last seven road starts and 7-2 in their last nine games which should set up an exciting game between two of the best in the AL. In the end, I like McHugh to bounce back with more effectiveness than Verlander and in the end the home team should get the win in what will be an exciting affair in Houston.
