The Atlanta Braves take the field Saturday at Marlins Park versus the Miami Marlins.
The Atlanta Braves have had nothing go their way with nine straight defeats to begin 2016. Make that 1-9 as the Braves picked up their first win with a 6-3 victory at Marlins Park on Friday night. Starter Williams Perez gave the Bravos 4.1 innings with three runs scored on eight hits and two BB before five relievers put up zeros. The Braves offense produced eight hits and a walk with Adonis Garcia and Gordon Beckham both going 2-4 and driving in five runs combined while Freddie Freeman scored twice. Bud Norris toes the rubber for the Atlanta Braves for the first time in a Braves uniform. Norris struggled in a 6-4 loss at the Washington Nationals the last time out with five runs given up on nine hits and two BB in five frames.

The Miami Marlins appeared to be in control of the visiting Atlanta Braves but the offense didn’t do much and the bullpen did even less in a series opening loss Friday night. Starter Wei-Yin Chen tossed a solid game for the Marlins with a pair of runs allowed on four hits through 6.1 innings. David Phelps came on to give up two more runs to absorb the loss while Chris Narveson was charged with two more runs in 1/3 of an inning as Miami became Atlanta’s first victim. The Marlins logged 12 hits and walked five times but grounded in to three double plays. Giancarlo Stanton and Martin Prado drove in runs for Miami while Dee Gordon, Marcell Ozuna and Christian Yelich combined for eight hits and a run each. The Miami Marlins hand the ball to Tom Koehler for Saturday’s start versus the Atlanta Braves. Koehler threw the ball well in his last outing in a 4-2 loss at the Washington Nationals with two runs scored on eight hits and four walks over 6.1 innings.
Atlanta are 1-7 in their last 8 Saturday games and are 10-42 in their last 52 road games while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 road games. The under is 6-2 in Miami last 8 Saturday games and the over is 9-4 in their last 13 on grass. Miami are 3-7 in Koehler’s last 10 starts versus Atlanta and the Braves are 32-14 in the last 46 meetings in Miami. I think Miami has the better shot here but neither team thrills me and I'm not laying the chalk...
