The Chicago Cubs look to continue their red hot start to the season as they head into Busch Stadium to face off against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Chicago Cubs look to be the first team to double digit victories with a win on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals as they currently sit atop the league standings with a 9-2 record and will turn to John Lackey in this one as he faces off against one of his former teams. The Cubs are a very impressive 5-1 through their first six contests on the road but are coming off a tough loss at Wrigley yesterday against the Colorado Rockies as they spoiled a great outing from Jon Lester and will need to find their bats in this one as they were limited to just three hits at home yesterday afternoon. The Cubs are 41-12 in their last 53 games against a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30 and are 36-17 in their last 53 road games and while they will have to contend with Mike Leake at Busch in this one the trends are certainly in their favour.

The St. Louis Cardinals meanwhile head into Monday’s contest with the Cubs sitting with a modest 6-5 record and will look to trim the deficit they face in the NL Central with a big ein over the Cubs here and will need a big outing out of Mike Leake. The Cards have a potent offense once again but for the first time in a long time they aren’t considered the favourite in the Central division as that designation is now with their Monday opponents but are still considered a very dangerous team and perhaps the biggest threat to Chicago winning the pennant. The Cards are 6-1 in their last seven games against a right handed starter and are 20-8 in their last 28 games on a Monday and with two pitchers going against each other looking to lower their respective ERA’s I think we should see an exciting game. In the end, I think the Cubs have a little bit more to work with and at a great price I think they get the victory behind a better outing from John Lackey.
