The Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Indians take the field in game two of their series.
The Seattle Mariners have often been criticized for their lack of scoring punch and that was their downfall Tuesday night in a 3-2 defeat at Cleveland. The Mariners pitching was left to shoulder the load and starter Wade Miley was not up to the task with all three runs plated on nine hits and four BB over 3.2 frames although the pen was outstanding with 4.1 scoreless innings. The M’s mustered six hits and a pair of walks with Kyle Seager slamming a solo homer while Leonys Martin drove in Adam Lind. The Mariners turn to Taijuan Walker for Wednesday’s start at Cleveland. Walker has been rock solid in two outings with three runs allowed on 12 hits and a pair of walks in 12 frames.

The Cleveland Indians received just enough scoring and outstanding work on the mound to upend the Mariners in the series opener. Starter Carlos Carrasco kept the Mariners offense in check with a solo jack accounting for the only run allowed through 6.1 frames before Cody Allen surrendered a 9th inning run to make the Progressive Field crowd squirm. Cleveland mounted a ten hit, five walk attack with Francisco Lindor going 3-3 with an RBI and run but the real story was the Indians hit in to three double plays. Danny Salazar will be shooting for his third straight win to begin the year when he opposes the Mariners. In two outings, Salazar has given up just one run on five hits over 11.1 innings while whiffing 16.
Seattle are 6-2 in their last 8 Wednesday games and the under is 5-2-1 in their last 8 road games while the Mariners are 7-16 in their last 23 overall. The over is 24-9-1 in Cleveland’s last 34 home games and the under is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings. I really like Salazar but Walker won’t be a walk in the park…
