The Chicago Cubs missed out on a road sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals because of a 5-3 loss on Wednesday but as they say; two out of three ain’t bad. Starter Kyle Hendricks gave up four early runs before lasting 5.1 frames with seven hits and a pair of BB before four relievers kept the game within reach. The Cubbies managed five hits and four walks with Anthony Rizzo going 2-4 with a homer and two RBI’s while Kris Bryant Knocked in a run. The Cubs hand the ball to ace Jake Arrieta who looks for his 4th consecutive victory to begin the year. Arrieta comes off a 6-2 victory versus Colorado with a five hit shutout over eight innings.

Scoring runs hasn’t exactly been the Cincinnati Reds forte’ thus far so when the offense does produce the game has to be won. The Reds did just that in a 6-5 victory versus visiting Colorado on Wednesday. Starter Raisel Iglesias gave up a pair of runs on five hits over 6.2 frames but received a no decision with Blake Wood and Anthony Cingrani allowing three runs. The Reds offense totaled nine hits with Jay Bruce going deep and driving in two while Adam Duvall homered and scored twice. Tucker Barnhart went 2-4 with a pair of RBI’s and a run with Brandon Phillips going 2-4 and scoring twice. Brandon Finnegan draw his 4th start of the season and second against the Cubs. Finnegan threw the ball well in a 9-8 victory at St Louis with four unearned runs given up on four hits and four walks over five frames.
The over is 9-1-1 in the Cubs last 11 Thursday games and Chicago are 13-3 in their last 16 Thursday games while going 37-16 in their last 53 overall. The over is 12-3-1 in Cincinnati’s last 16 Thursday games and the Reds are 6-2 in their last 8 home games while going 20-43 in their last 63 overall. The Cubs are 19-7 in the last 26 meetings. It’s probably not wise to go against Arrieta right now and hopefully that is the case once again…
