The San Diego Padres look to rebound after getting pasted at home by the Pittsburgh Pirates last night as they welcome the St. Louis Cardinals to town starting on Friday night.
The Cardinals have been business as usual to start the season and while they have their holes and will endure some hiccups along the way they look to be every bit as dangerous as we have seen in years past and shouldn’t be taken lightly by anybody. The Cards head into this game sitting with an 8-7 record but will send Adam Wainwright to the bump as he continues to be the ace of a talented Cardinals staff and with an 0-2 record and a disappointing 8.27 ERA this season you can be sure the veteran will be aiming for a dominating effort which is in the cards here against a hapless Padres team. St. Louis is 7-1 in their last eight games against the NL West and are 23-5 in the last 28 starts of Wainwright’s in which he had five days rest so things are pointing towards the Cards getting back in the win column and Waino getting his first victory of the season.

San Diego is coming off a trouncing at the hands of the Pirates last night and for a team that has done their far share of scoring runs it is perhaps pay back for a team that has no business putting up double digit scores. The Padres do have some talent and will send Andrew Cashner to the bump for tonight’s show down but he hasn’t panned out during his team in California and while he could make amends with a strong outing this year it seems like the Pads could be forced to move on from the once touted prospect who was hoping to be slotted in as the team’s security blanket behind Tyson Ross and James Shields. The Pads face a tough test against the Cardinals and while San Diego is capable of bouncing back if Cashner has a great outing I just don’t see either happening at this point as the Cards get another victory on the road.
