Coming up on Saturday in the rare air of Coors Field, we’ve got MLB action featuring the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies.
This will be game two of the weekend series between Colorado and L.A. In Friday’s opener, the Rockies bagged two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to propel them to a 7-5 victory.

For Saturday’s game, the Dodgers will be rolling out right-hander Kenta Maeda. So far, Maeda has been pretty darn magnificent in his three starts, bagging a cool 0.47 ERA with a 0.95 WHIP over 19 innings of work. In his most recent outing Sunday, Maeda logged seven innings of one-run baseball with seven strikeouts against the Giants.
The big-swinging Dodgers lineup is chock full of stars. Adrian Gonzalez has been on fire with 24 hits, nine runs and 13 RBI. Yasiel Puig has also hit well on 18 hits with nine runs. Even Chase Utley is getting in on the act with 17 hits, seven runs and three RBI.
The Rockies will be utilizing Tyler Chatwood for Saturday’s matchup. Chatwood has also played pretty well over his three starts, with a 2.79 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP in 19.1 innings of work. Back on Sunday, Chatwood put up seven innings of shutout ball on two hits against the Cubs.
The Colorado bats have been the talk of the league in 2016, as there’s lots of power and potential here. Carlos Gonzalez leads the way with 22 hits, 12 runs and 11 RBI. Gonzalez came up empty on Friday, however. Trevor Story has amassed 18 hits with 14 runs, eight homers and 14 RBI, and Nolan Arenado has 18 hits with 15 runs, seven homers and 17 RBI.
The Dodgers are 6-2 in their last eight game twos of a series, and 4-2 in their last six overall against the National League West. As for the Rockies, they’re just 2-9 in their last 11 Saturday games and 1-4 in Chatwood’s last five starts following a quality start in his previous appearance.
Even in the hitters’ confines of Coors Field, this has all the makings of a great pitchers’ duel. I’m going to roll with Maeda here, as he’s been sensational thus far and should get the Dodgers in a position to get the victory.
