The Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees collide in their series finale’ at Yankee Stadium Sunday.
The Tampa Bay Rays have been struggling to score runs and that is putting a lot of pressure on their pitching staff. The Rays scoring issues continued Saturday in a 3-2 defeat at New York and the arms couldn’t win on their lonesome. TB starter Blake Snell allowed a run over five frames with Enny Romero gave up an unearned run before Erasmo Ramirez served up a 9th inning homer to absorb the loss. Tampa Bay totaled six hits and a walk with Kevin Kermaier launching a solo jack while Corey Dickerson went 3-4 and drove in Logan Morrison. Left hander Drew Smyly draws the start Sunday for the Tampa Bay Rays. Smyly comes off one of the best starts of his career in a 3-0 win at Boston with a one hitter with eleven K’s over eight frames.

The New York Yankees are in need of a prolonged winning streak but need their offense to come around. The Yankees leaned heavily on their pitching Saturday and the bats did just enough to squeeze out a victory. Yanks starter Masahiro Tanaka gave up both runs on five hits and struck out seven through seven frames but did not get a decision. The Bronx Bombers mustered seven hits and three free passes with Brett Gardner leading the way on a 3-5 day with two runs driven in including a walk off homer in the 9th. Michael Pineda gets the call to the mound to oppose Tampa Bay Sunday afternoon. Pineda did not receive a decision in a 3-2 defeat at Oakland with a pair of runs plated on seven hits in six innings.
Tampa Bay are 2-7 in their last 9 road games and the under is 9-3-3 in the Rays last 15 overall while going 5-2-2 in their last 9 on grass. The under is 5-1-2 in the Yankees last 8 overall and the Yankees are 2-7 in their last 9 overall. Tampa Bay are 3-9 in the last 12 meetings in New York and the under is 11-4-2 in the last 17 meetings. I don’t think I’d bet this because I don’t know if either will score so I’ll just side with the better odds…
