The San Francisco Giants host the NL West rival San Diego Padres in Monday action.
The San Diego Padres seemed to be finding their way against an always tough Cardinals squad before the Cards said enough is enough and outscored SD 8-5 on Sunday in the final game of the series. Padres starter Colin Rea allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits over five frames with Kevin Quakenbush serving up two homers without recording an out for a BS before Brandon Mauer was charged with three runs on three hits in the 8th to absorb the loss. San Diego mustered nine hits and a trio of free passes with Christian Bethancourt slamming a two run jack while Melvin Upton Jr. driving in a pair. The San Diego Padres turn to Drew Pomeranz for his 4th start of the season. Pomeranz was outstanding last time out with an unearned run plated on four hits and three BB while whiffing ten over 6.2 frames of an 8-2 win versus the Pirates.

The San Francisco Giants have some of the best talent in the game but they have yet to get things going consistently. Sunday was another setback in a 5-4 defeat to visiting Miami where the starting pitching and offense came up short. Matt Cain gave SF 5.2 innings with four runs plated on ten hits with Josh Osich allowing a solo homer in the 8th to get the loss. San Francisco logged 12 hits and six BB with Hunter Pence going solo and scoring twice while Gregor Blanco was 2-3 with an RBI and run. Ace Madison Bumgarner looks for his second win when he opposes the San Diego Padres. Bumgarner was a tough luck 2-1 loser to the Diamondbacks last time out with both runs plated on five hits over seven innings.
San Diego are 7-2 in their last 9 Monday games and are 8-17 in their last 25 overall while the Padres are 8-17 in their last 25 games on grass. San Francisco are 3-8 in their last 11 overall and are 3-8 in their last 11 games on grass while going 4-9 in their last 13 Monday games. The over is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings and San Diego are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings. The Giants need to get in gear and hopefully it starts here….
