The Baltimore Orioles head to the Sunshine State Monday to take on the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Baltimore Orioles offense never got going and their late inning work on the mound faltered and the result was a 6-1 defeat at Kansas City on Sunday afternoon. Struggling Orioles starter Mike Wright was in a groove before allowing four runs in the 7th and five overall on eight hits including a pair of homers in 6.1 frames. The O’s attack couldn’t keep up on four hits and two bases on balls with Mark Trumbo driving in Manny Machado in the first. The Baltimore Orioles send Kevin Gausman to the hill for the first time because of a stint on the DL with a shoulder problem. In 2015, Gausman made 25 appearances including 17 starts and was 4-7 with a 4.25 ERA.

I like to say that when Tampa Bay scores some runs they have to win because scoring doesn’t come easy. It did Sunday and the pitching made it stand up in an 8-1 win at the Yankees on Sunday. Starter Drew Smyly was in top form for the Rays with the lone run plated on six hits through seven innings to up his record to 1-2. Tampa Bay pounded Yankees pitching for 12 hits with a pair of walks with Steven Souza smacking two homers while Corey Dickerson, Steve Pearce and Logan Forsythe also leaving the yard. The Tampa Bay Rays are hoping the struggles of Chris Archer are behind him when he faces the Orioles Monday. In four outings Archer has gone 0-4 with a 2.25 WHIP and 8.59 ERA.
Baltimore are 16-5 in their last 21 overall and the under is 12-5-1 in their last 18 Monday games while the Orioles are 1-7 in Gausman’s last 8 road starts. The over is 7-1-5 in Tampa Bay’s last 13 Monday games and the under is 7-1-1 in their last 9 on astroturf while going 7-1-1 in the Rays last 9 home games. I don’t know what is wrong with Archer and Gausman will likely be on a pitch count so proceed with caution…
