The Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates meet up again at Coors Field on Thursday after a heavy hitting high scoring affair on Wednesday.
The Pirates look to keep their offense rolling in Colorado on Thursday night but if they are going to get a victory and add another mark to the win column they need to sort their pitching out as they have been giving up huge numbers to the Rockies who have rally been hitting the ball well at home this week. The Pirates are rock solid on offense and have a couple of legit, top end starting pitchers yet somehow they have traded wins and losses most of the season and haven’t been able to separate themselves from the pack in the early going. Pittsburgh will look to get on track when they send Juan Nicasio to the mound who will face off against Tyler Chatwood.

The Rockies meanwhile have lost more than they have won this season but have actually played better than a lot of people expected this season and a lot of that credit goes to their explosive offense led by Nolan Arenado. Colorado needs to find a way to bring in some top end pitching talent but it is seen as a graveyard thanks to the hitter friendly Coors Field but unless they can add a piece to the front end of their rotation they are going to be fighting a tough uphill battle. Colorado will look to move closer to the .500 mark on Thursday and have a chance against Nicasio who is 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA this season.
The Pirates are 5-1 in their last six road games, 8-2 in their last 10 road games against a team with a losing record and 94-46 in their last 140 games against a team with a losing mark while the Rockies are 43-91 in their last 134 against a team with a winning record, 1-4 in Chatwood’s last five starts against a team with a winning record but 4-1 in their last five Chatwood starts against the NL Central which sets up an exciting contest at Coors on Thursday. In the end, I think the Pirates have the more complete lineup and should be able to continue their offensive surge in what should be a Pittsburgh win.
