Tropicana Field and the Tampa Bay Rays host the Toronto Blue Jays in game two on Saturday.
The Toronto Blue Jays had been struggling to score consistently but that was never an issue Saturday in a 6-1 victory at Tampa Bay. Blue Jays starter Aaron Sanchez was just as impressive with six hit shutout over seven frames to up his record to 2-1. The Jays produced seven hits and walked four times with the power game leading the way. Michael Saunders homered twice with Josh Donaldson and Ryan Goins going solo while Justin Smoak knocked in a pair of runs. Left hander JA Happ gets the call to the mound Saturday to face Tampa Bay for the second time in 2016. Happ is gunning for a 4th straight win after knocking off Oakland 9-3 with all three runs scored on seven hits over seven innings.

It’s the same old story for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2016 and that is a lack of punch at the plate. So Saturday’s loss was almost predictable and Rays starter Drew Smyly paid the price. Smyly gave up a pair of runs on solo jacks through six innings which ended up as a loss with three relievers allowing four runs. Tampa Bay logged nine hits and two bases on balls which was a good night at the plate except the scoring wasn’t there. Brad Mills led TB with his second homer in the 9th to break the shutout with four players posting two hits. The Tampa Bay Rays are hoping for another solid star from Chris Archer when he gets the ball Saturday. Archer earned his first win in a 2-0 decision versus the Orioles with a five hitter over 6.2 frames while striking out ten.
The over is 7-1-1 in Toronto’s last 9 Saturday games and the under is 12-3-1 in their last 16 road games while the Blue Jays are 2-6 in their last 8 overall. The under is 10-1-1 in Tampa Bay’s last 12 on astroturf and the under is 10-1-1 in their last 12 home games while the over is 8-3-1 in the Rays last 12 Saturday games. Let’s see if Chris Archer can get the job done and prove he deserves the title of ace…
