The Houston Astros host the Seattle Mariners in American League West action on Thursday.
Even though the season is young it seems strange to see the Seattle Mariners leading the American League West still feels strange. The Mariners will remain atop the division thanks to a 9-8 victory at Oakland with some late scoring bailing out starter Felix Hernandez. Hernandez was charged with all eight runs (four earned) on nine hits through four innings with four relievers putting up zeros. The M’s amassed 16 hits and walked three time with Nelson Cruz going 3-4 with a homer and two RBI’s while Dae-Ho Lee homered twice and knocked in three. Left hander Wade Miley gets the ball from the Mariners in game one of the series at Houston. Miley comes off of one of his best starts in recent memory with a 6-0 win versus Kansas City with a five hit, complete game.

The Houston Astros have had a dismal start to the season but perhaps Wednesday’s 16-4 rout of visiting Minnesota was a swing in momentum going forward. The Astros had everything going for them despite a poor outing from Mike Fiers who allowed all four runs on nine hits through 4.2 innings for a no decision before four relievers held the Twins at bay. The Stros bats stole the show with 14 hits and seven walks with Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa both going 3-5 with a homer, three RBI’s and three runs while Jason Castro went 2-3 with a long ball, four RBI’s and a pair of runs. George Springer, Colby Rasmus and Carlos Gomez drove in two runs apiece as every starter but one reached base. Rookie Chris Devenski makes his second straight start for the Houston Astros. Devenski had made six relief appearances before losing 2-0 at Oakland in his first career start where he allowed both runs on five hits and three BB in five frames.
Seattle are 4-11 in their last 15 Thursday games and the under is 7-3-1 in their last 11 road games. Houston are 4-10 in their last 14 overall and are 4-10 in their last 14 games on grass. The over is 19-5-2 in the last 26 meetings and is 16-5 in the last 21 meetings in Houston. The way both teams are swinging the bats I’m looking at the over…
