The Philadelphia Phillies look to wake up their bats as they continue their series at Busch Stadium against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Phillies offense ran dry in St. Louis last night as they couldn’t muster a single run in a 4-0 loss as Jaime Garcia put up his best outing of the season, but the Phils get a shot at redemption on Friday as they send Vince Velasquez to the bump as he will face off against Wei-Yin Chen. Philadelphia has surprised a ton of people this season and have exceeded expectations in the first month, but with plenty of baseball left to be played and an underwhelming lineup combined with a tough division it could still be a disappointing campaign for the Phillies and their rabid fan base.

The Marlins meanwhile head into Friday’s game coming off a 4-0 shutout victory of their own on Thursday as they blanked the Diamondbacks in Miami and now welcome a Phils side that doesn’t match up particularly well despite holding the edge on the mound in this one. Miami has a very solid roster led by Giancarlo Stanton and Christian Yelich and they should be considered a threat to the Mets and Nationals to win the NL East this season, especially if they can add a starting pitcher throughout the season to compliment Jose Fernandez.
Philadelphia is 4-0 in their last four games against the NL East, 6-0 in their last six against a team with a winning record and 10-4 in their last 14 overall while the Marlins are 10-1 in their last 11 overall, 8-1 in their last nine following a win, and 6-1 in their last seven against a righty which sets up a very intriguing matchup. In the end, I think Velazquez is due for a stinker and on the road against a heavy hitting lineup I think we see it here. Take Miami.
