The St. Louis Cardinals have been the team to beat in the National League Central for quite awhile but they have looked ordinary in 2016 and have yet to find a groove. The Cardinals didn’t find the groove in the series opener versus the visiting Pirates on Friday night. Cards starter Carlos Martinez gave up a run on three hits and three bases on balls through 3.1 innings with Tyler Lyons allowing two runs on four hits over 3.2 frames. The St. Louis offense mustered seven hits and a pair of walks while whiffing 12 times with Ruben Tejada recording an RBI with Yadier Molina and Aledmys Diaz scoring. The St. Louis Cardinals are scheduled to start Adam Wainwright for the second time against the Pirates. Wainwright has won back to back starts after knocking off Philadelphia 10-3 with all three runs plated on five hits and a walk in six frames.
The under is 10-1 in Pittsburgh’s last 11 Saturday games and the over is 9-2 in the Pirates last 11 road games while going 17-5 in their last 22 overall. The over is 8-3-2 in the Cardinals last 13 overall and is 8-3-2 in their last 13 on grass while St. Louis are 89-42 in their last 131 home games. St. Louis are 7-3 in Wainwright’s last 10 starts versus Pittsburgh. I think the Cards have the edge here but they are no sure thing…
