The Detroit Tigers visit the nation’s capital to face the Washington Nationals.
The Detroit Tigers are in need of a prolonged winning streak to keep the White Sox from running away in the American League Central. The Tigers seemed poised to get a win Sunday against Texas before the bullpen suffered a meltdown in an 8-3 defeat. Tigers starter Justin Verlander was outstanding with a three hit shutout over seven frames with nine K’s before Justin Wilson allowed two runs without getting an out while Mark Lowe was charged with five runs in 2/3 of an inning as Texas posted seven runs in the 8th. Detroit managed six hits and five walks with Justin Upton, Miguel Cabrera and JD Martinez driving in runs. The Detroit Tigers go with Anibal Sanchez on the mound for the series opener at Washington. Sanchez comes off of a 4-0 loss at Cleveland with four runs scored on four hits and three BB in seven frames.

The Washington Nationals possess plenty of talent throughout their lineup and pitching staff but apparently the Cubs are loaded in both areas as well after sweeping the Nationals out of Wrigley after Sunday’s 4-3, 13 inning marathon. Nats starter Tanner Roark allowed an unearned run through six innings before Oliver Perez gave up two in 1/3 of an inning with Blake Treinen serving up a walk off bomb to absorb the loss. Washington mustered eleven hits and walked ten times with Anthony Rendon, Ryan Zimmerman and Wilson Ramos driving in runs. Stephen Strasburg toes the rubber for the Washington Nationals on Monday. Strasburg has kicked off the season in top form with a 5-0 record and a 2.26 ERA in 42 innings of work.
The over is 8-0 in Detroit’s last 8 interleague road games and is 14-2 in their last 16 interleague games while going 10-4 in their last 14 overall. Washington are 8-3 in their last 11 home games and the over is 5-2-1 in their last 8 interleague games. The over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings and Detroit are 8-2 in the last 10 meetings. I’m going with Strasburg and an angry Nationals squad…
