The Chicago Cubs look for a win in game one of their doubleheader with the San Diego Padres.
The San Diego Padres don’t generally do a lot of scoring so when they do they need to win especially against the Cubs. That didn’t happen in an 8-7 defeat at Wrigley Field on Tuesday with Padres starter Cesar Vargas charged with six runs on ten hits and three BB over four frames with Luis Perdomo allowing two. The SD attack consisted of eight hits and a trio of BB with Alex Dickerson connecting on a pinch hit grand slam with Melvin Upton Jr. going solo while Derek Norris scored twice. Colin Rea will be on the mound at Wrigley Field Wednesday for his first career match up with the Cubs. Rea was at his best last time out in a 5-3 win versus the Mets with a solo homer allowed over eight frames.

The Chicago Cubs continue to prove that last season was not a fluke as they keep rolling up the wins. The Cubs stayed on a roll as their offense and starting pitching overcame poor work out of the bullpen. Cubbies starter Jon Lester came up big with three runs plated on four hits through six innings to improve to 4-1 before Justin Grimm gave up three runs. Chicago mustered 12 hits and walked five times with Addison Russell going 2-3 with three RBI’s while Ben Zobrist was 4-4 with three runs and two runs driven in. Kris Bryant knocked in two more and Jason Hey ward scored twice as every starter reached base. Kyle Hendricks gets the start in game one of the Cubs DH versus visiting San Diego. Hendricks comes off of a dominant 5-2 win versus Washington with a two hit shutout in six innings.
The under is 9-2 in San Diego’s last 11 road games and the Padres are 2-7 in their last 9 road games with the under is 7-3 in their last 10 overall. The over is 11-3-2 in the Cubs last 16 overall and 11-3-2 in their last 16 on grass while Chicago are 43-15 in their last 58 overall. The over is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings. Just going with the hot team…
