The San Francisco Giants visit Chase Field to begin a series with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The San Francisco Giants need a hot streak to separate themselves from the pack in the National League West and took a step in the right direction with Wednesday’s 5-4, 13 inning win against the visiting Blue Jays. Giants starter Madison Bumgarner allowed a run on three hits and four BB over 6.2 frames and left with a 4-1 lead but Cory Gearin gave up two runs and Santiago Castilla served up a long ball to send the game to extras. The SF offense mustered 12 hits and walked seven times with Denard Span, Hunter Pence and Grego Blanco driving in runs. The San Francisco Giants send Johnny Cueto to the bump to face Arizona for the second time in 2016. Cueto comes off of a 2-1 win versus Colorado with 8.1 scoreless innings pitched.

The Arizona Diamondbacks spirited rally from a 6-1 deficit at Colorado on Wednesday went for naught in an 8-7 defeat. The Diamondbacks were showing some signs of turning things around but starter Robbie Ray was charged with five runs (three earned) on nine hits through 4.2 innings with Evan Marshall allowing two more before Tyler Clippard served up an 8th inning homer to take the loss. The D-Backs totaled 13 hits with Chris Hermann leading the way with a 2-4 day with three runs driven in and two scored. Zack Greinke will be shooting for back to back wins when he opposes San Francisco in game one of their series. Greinke defeated Atlanta 7-2 on the road last time out with both runs allowed on seven hits in six frames.
The over is 7-1 in the Giants last 8 during game one of a series. The over is 5-2-1 in Arizona’s last 8 home games and is 7-3-2 in their last 12 Thursday games. The under is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings and San Francisco are 24-9 in the last 33 meetings in Arizona. I sometimes say that some games are better to watch then bet and this is one of them…
