The Baltimore Orioles look to extend their lead in the AL East when the Detroit Tigers visit Friday.
The Detroit Tigers don’t have a problem scoring but opponents also score their share and that was the case Friday in a 7-5 defeat at Baltimore where a 5-0 lead went by the wayside. Tigers starter Mike Pelfrey gave up two runs on five hits over 5.1 frames before Alex Wilson and Justin Wilson allowed a combined five runs in one inning. The Tigers pounded out 13 hits and walked five times with Jarrod Saltalamacchia going solo while Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez knocked in two runs apiece. The Detroit Tigers open the series at Baltimore with Justin Verlander on the bump. Verlander looked like his former self last time out in an 8-3 loss (ND) when he tossed seven scoreless innings.

The Baltimore Orioles maintained their grip on the top spot in the American League East with Friday’s come from behind victory that featured seven consecutive runs. Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez was hit hard for all five runs (four earned) on nine hits and four bases on balls but four relievers held Detroit off the scoreboard. The O’s did their damage on 12 hits and three walks with Jonathan Schoop going 2-4 with three RBI’s with Chris Davis driving in two and scoring twice while Manny Machado scored two times. The Baltimore Orioles hand he ball to Chris Tillman Friday who is shooting for his 5th win. Tillman comes off of an 11-3 rout of Oakland with all three runs plated on six hits and four BB in 6.1 frames.
Detroit are 1-8 in their last 9 overall and are 1-8 in their last 9 games on grass while going 4-11 in their last 15 Friday games. Baltimore are 21-8 in their last 29 home games and the under is 11-5-2 in their last 18 home games while going 14-6 in Tillman’s last 20 Friday starts. The Tigers are 3-7 in the last 10 meetings. I am going with Baltimore who just seems to get the job done…
