The Minnesota Twins travel to Comerica Park to kick off a series with the Detroit Tigers.
The Minnesota Twins fell behind 8-0 in the first before a spirited rally knotted the score at 8-8 before finally falling 10-8 at Detroit in the series opener Monday. Twins rookie Jose Berrios was charged with seven runs on three hits and four free passes in 2/3 of an inning before Pat Dean gave up two runs on ten hits over 5.1 frames. The Twins mustered eleven hits with Miguel Sano going deep and driving in two while Kurt Suzuki homered with two RBI’s and a pair of runs as every starter but one reached base. The Twins send a struggling Phil Hughes to the mound to face the Tigers for the second time in 2016. In his last three outings Hughes has allowed a combined 15 runs on 19 hits including five homers over eleven innings.

The Detroit Tigers jumped all over Minnesota for eight runs in the first and had Jordan Zimmermann on the mound so this looked like the easiest of wins. However, Zimmermann was off his game with eight runs plated (seven earned)on eleven hits including a pair of long balls through seven innings to get the win and improve to 6-2. The Tigers amassed 14 hits and walked four times with Ian Kinsler, Nick Castellanos and JD Martinez each cracking homers and driving in two runs and scoring two times apiece. The Detroit Tigers are scheduled to start Mike Pelfrey against Minnesota for the second time this season. On the year Pelfrey has gone 0-4 with a 1.85 WHIP and 5.80 ERA over seven starts.
