The Boston Red Sox collide with the Kansas City Royals in game one of their twin bill.
The Boston Red Sox have been absolutely crushing the baseball which has them within a whisper of taking over the top spot in the American League East. The Red Sox are off to their best start in recent memory thanks to their offense but the question is whether the bats can score like this over the long haul. The pitching has been okay at times but has tended to allow runs and in the American League East it’s never a good thing to be unbalanced because pitching usually is the key to winning in this division. Knuckleballer Steven Wright leads the Red Sox on the mound Wednesday in game one of their DH versus Kansas City. Wright is coming off his worse outing of the year when he gave up five runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings of a 7-6 loss to Houston.

I can bet that most Kansas City fans are worried seeing their team sitting in third place in the American League Central. I am surprised but not concerned because the defending World Series champions have most of the same ingredients that took them all the way in 2015. The Royals are a team that simply finds ways to win and when pitching is needed they get it and when runs are needed they score. KC had the knack of coming up big in 2015 and to me nothing has changed except it’s early and Kansas City has not gotten in to a groove yet but they will. Ian Kennedy toes the rubber versus Boston in game number one of their twin bill. Kennedy looks to bounce back from a 7-3 defeat at the Yankees where he gave up all seven runs on five hits including three homers in 6.1 frames.
Boston are 16-5 in their last 21 overall and are 16-5 in their last 21 games on grass while the over is 8-3 in their last 11 Wednesday games. The under is 13-4 in Kansas City’s last 17 home games and the Royals are 6-13 in their last 19 overall while going 6-13 in their last 19 games on grass. The over is 7-1-1 in the last 9 meetings and Boston are 10-4 in the last 14 meetings. I might take a chance on the Royals if I bet this but not a edge to exploit that thrills me…
