The St. Louis Cardinals host the Colorado Rockies in Wednesday night action at Busch Stadium.
The Colorado Rockies need to even out the highs and lows to become a challenger in the NL West although the high right now is fine and dandy with a five game winning streak after downing the Cardinals 3-1 on the road Tuesday. Rockies starter Chad Bettis was at his best with the lone run scored on five hits and a pair of BB over 6.2 frames to pick up the win. Colorado did their damage on seven hits and four walks with Nolan Arenado, Dustin Garneau and Bettis driving in runs. The Rockies are hoping Christopher Rusin gets back on the winning track when he faces the Cardinals. Rusin has struggled the past two times out with eleven runs allowed on 23 hits and four BB in ten innings.

If the St. Louis Cardinals are going to catch the Cubs in the NL Central then consistency on the mound and plate is the key. The Cardinals never got their offense untracked Tuesday and have now dropped three of four. Cards starter Jaime Garcia was charged with all three runs on five hits and four bases on balls while three relievers held the Colorado offense in check. The Redbirds posted six hits and walked three times with Randal Grichuk driving in Aledmys Diaz in the 7th inning. The St. Louis Cardinals are hoping Adam Wainwright can return to his usual Cy Young contending form when he faces Colorado Wednesday. Wainwright is 3-3 with a 6.80 ERA in eight starts.
Colorado are 9-20 in their last 29 Wednesday games are 3-10 in Rusin’s last 13 road starts. The over is 8-2-2 in the Cardinals last 12 Wednesday games and is 7-2 in their last 9 versus the National League West while going 6-2 in their last 8 overall. The Cardinals need to get their act together soon and hopefully Wainwright is up to the task…
