The Chicago White Sox and the Kansas City Royals open a big AL Central series on Friday.
The Kansas City Royals have been trying to regain their form of a season ago and had won three in a row before dropping the night cap of a twin bill with the Red Sox by a 5-2 count where the offense couldn’t do much against a stingy David Price. Royals starter Edinson Volquez didn’t have his best stuff with four runs plated on seven hits and four walks including a pair of homers over six frames to fall to 4-4. The KC offense mustered six hits and a walk with Salvador Perez going deep while Lorenzo Cain singled in Alcides Escobar. Dillon Gee makes just his second start for Kansas City and first ever versus the White Sox. In his first start for the Royals, Gee dropped a 5-0 decision to Atlanta with three runs plated on six hits and three BB in 5.1 innings.

The Chicago White Sox remain atop the American League Central despite hitting a rough patch. The White Sox gad been slumping with losses in six of seven but ace Chris Sale came through with another gem with a complete game four hitter in a 2-1 victory versus the visiting Astros on Thursday night while whiffing nine and improving to 9-0. The CWS offense barely did enough with five hits and a base on balls with Jerry Sands and Alex Avila driving in runs while Todd Frazier and Jimmy Rollins scored. Jose Quintana is hoping for more run support against visiting Kansas City then what he received versus the Yankees in a 2-1 defeat. Quintana gave up both runs on five hits and a pair of BB in seven frames.
Kansas City are 3-12 in their last 15 road games and are 8-3 in their last 11 Friday games. The over is 9-3 in the White Sox last 12 overall and is 9-3 in their last 12 on grass while the under is 11-4 in their last 15 home games. Chicago are 2-9 in Quintana’s last 11 starts versus Kansas City and the Royals are 21-7 in the last 28 meetings in Chicago. Quintana doesn’t usually beat Kansas City but maybe the team total over works…
