Busch Stadium and the St Louis Cardinals host the Arizona Diamondbacks in Friday night action.
The Arizona Diamondbacks added some pieces in the offseason and whether it’s enough to make them a challenger in the National League West is a wait and see scenario. The Diamondbacks saw a two game winning streak end in a 4-2 loss to the Yankees where the offense failed to generate much. D-Backs starter Shelby Miller kept his team competitive with three runs allowed on ten hits and three BB over 5.2 frames as he fell to 1-5. Zona managed two hits and a pair of walks with Chris Owings going solo while Paul Goldschmidt drove in Jean Segura. Left hander Patrick Corbin gets the ball for the second time against the Cardinals in 2016. Corbin comes off of a 5-3 loss to San Francisco where he allowed three runs on nine hits over 6.1 innings.

The St. Louis Cardinals have yet to hit their stride but need to with the Cubs threatening to run away with the NL Central. The Cardinals might be ready to go off after Thursday’s 13-7 win versus Colorado gave them victories in three of four. Cardinals starter Michael Wacha wasn’t good with six runs plated on eight hits through four innings but three relievers held the Rockies offense in check. The Redbirds pounded out 12 hits and walked four times with Matt Carpenter going 3-5 with a homer and six RBI’s and two runs with Matt Adams driving in four while Stephen Piscotty knocked in two and scored twice. Carlos Martinez toes the rubber against the Diamondbacks for the second time this year. Martinez dropped a 5-3 decision at the Dodgers last time out with four runs plated on five hits and three BB in five frames.
Arizona are 2-6 in their last 8 overall and are 2-6 in their last 8 games on grass while the over is 9-4 in their last 13 Friday games. The over is 5-1-4 in Martinez’s last 10 home starts and is 5-1-2 in Martinez’s last 8 starts on grass while going 5-1-2 in Martinez’s last 8 starts overall. Arizona are 17-38 in the last 55 meetings. Hopefully the Cardinals are heading in the right direction and get this one…
