Minute Maid Park will be coming alive once again on Sunday, as the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros finish up their weekend series.
This will be the third and final meeting of this set. On Friday in the opener, the Rangers took a slim 2-1 victory. In Saturday’s game, we had pretty much the same thing, with Texas eking out a 2-1 win once again.

Left-hander Cole Hamels will be taking the mound for the Rangers on Sunday. Over his 49.1 innings and eight starts this season, Hamels has posted a 3.10 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP on a 4-0 record. In his last start Tuesday against the A’s, Hamels had to take a no-decision after giving up three homers and four runs in 6.2 innings.
The Rangers batting order features quite a bit of talent. Rougned Odor, who was just recently suspended, leads the team on 48 hits, 28 runs and 22 RBI with seven homers. Ian Desmond has 43 hits with 31 runs and 25 RBI. Prince Fielder sports a yucky .199 BA but has managed 30 hits with 23 RBI. Desmond came up empty on Saturday, but Fielder snagged a hit.
We’ll be getting another look at the Astros’ left-hander Dallas Keuchel on Sunday. Over nine starts and a 2-5 record this season, Keuchel has managed a 5.43 ERA with a 1.58 WHIP in 56.1 innings. On Tuesday, Keuchel posted a no-decision in a quality start against the White Sox, giving up three runs in 6.1 innings.
The Houston lineup features a pretty impressive collection of hitters. Jose Altuve has been crushing this season on 58 hits, 39 runs, nine homers and 26 RBI. George Springer has logged nine homers with 25 RBI and 27 runs. Carlos Correa has 43 hits with 22 runs and seven homers of his own. In the top three slots Saturday, Altuve, Correa and Springer came up with just one hit in 12 tries.
The Rangers are 17-4 in Hamels’ last 21 starts, and 4-1 in Hamels’ last five starts during game three of a series.
Meanwhile, the Astros are 22-5 in Keuchel’s last 27 home starts, and 8-2 in Keuchel’s last 10 Sunday starts.
I really like the Astros offense this year, but I think Hamels can pitch well enough to give the Rangers a victory.
