The Pittsburgh Pirates look to pick up a win at the expense of the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.
The Colorado Rockies have shown the ability to string wins and losses together and obviously need to limit the losing streaks. The Rockies are a tough out and proved it Saturday with a 5-1 win behind a four run 9th at PNC Park that ended a three game skid. Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood allowed the lone run on six hits and two BB with three relievers putting up zeros. Colorado produced six hits and walked three times with Cristhian Adames smacking a two run homer while Tony Wolters driving in a run and scoring. Chad Bettis shoots for back to back wins when he opposes the Pirates for the second time in 2016. Bettis comes off of a 3-1 win at St. Louis with the lone run scored on five hits over 6.2 innings.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are chasing the Cubs in the National League Central but they need better work on the mound to make a charge. Despite Saturday’s defeat to visiting Colorado the Pirates have still won five of seven. Pirates starter Jon Niese gave up a run on four hits through seven frames before Mark Melancon allowed three in the 9thto absorb the loss. The Buccos totaled nine hits and four free passes with Jordy Mercer driving in Matt Joyce with the only run. The Pirates hand the ball to Juan Nicasio who looks for his first quality start in four outings. Nicasio comes off of a 12-9 win versus Atlanta with five runs allowed (three earned) on eight hits in five frames.
Colorado are 7-1 in their last 8 Sunday games. The over is 7-2 in Pittsburgh’s last 9 home games and the Pirates are 27-10 in their last 37 Sunday games while the over is 24-10-1 in their last 35 overall. Colorado are 1-8 in the last 9 meetings in Pittsburgh and are 3-14 in the last 17 meetings. I’m not confident in either hurler so I’ll side with a good home team…
