Tuesday evening at Yankee Stadium, the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees will be kicking off a three-game mid-week series.
Toronto is coming off a four-game weekend set with the Twins. The Blue Jays dropped Saturday’s game, but won the other three games to finish the series 3-1.
Meanwhile, New York played four games against the A’s over the weekend. The Yankees won all four of those games, and have won five in a row overall.

The Blue Jays will be bringing out knuckleball right-hander R.A. Dickey for Tuesday’s game. Dickey has been all over the map in his nine starts and 2-5 record this season, logging a 4.50 ERA with a 1.35 WHIP in 54 total innings. On Wednesday when we last saw him, Dickey gave up three home runs to the Rays, allowing five runs (four earned) over six innings for a loss.
There’s no denying Toronto’s offensive prowess. Michael Saunders leads the proverbial charge with 48 hits and 23 runs. Josh Donaldson is playing well on 11 homers, 37 runs and 24 RBI. Jose Bautista has 10 home runs with 34 RBI, but a tepid .230 BA. Edwin Encarnacion owns a .240 BA with 43 hits, nine homers and 32 RBI.
The Yankees will be bringing right-hander Nathan Eovaldi to the rubber on Tuesday. Across eight starts and a 4-2 record this season, Eovaldi holds a 4.44 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP in 48.2 innings. Back on Wednesday, Eovaldi lasted six innings against the Diamondbacks, giving up just one run and one hit.
The New York batting order is pretty mediocre, but we’ve seen some bright spots this season. Starlin Castro has done pretty well on 45 hits with 13 runs and 18 RBI. Carlos Beltran is hitting .274 with 22 runs, 43 hits and a team-high 12 doubles. Jacoby Ellsbury has 36 hits with 18 runs and 14 RBI. Brian McCann is also getting in on the action with 32 hits and 18 RBI with six homers.
The Blue Jays are 1-7 in Dickey’s last eight starts, but 4-1 in Dickey’s last five road starts against a team with a losing record.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 1-4 in their last five Tuesday games, and 4-1 in Eovaldi’s last five starts.
This is a tough call, as you’re never sure what you’ll get with Dickey, but I like the Yankees here. Eovaldi has been pitching well and has a good shot to continue his solid run.
