The Detroit Tigers venture to the west coast to begin a series with the Oakland Athletics.
The Detroit Tigers have been playing well and need to in a very competitive American League Central. The Tigers have won eight of ten but are coming off an 8-5 loss to visiting Philadelphia. The Tigers defense hurt starter Anibal Sanchez who was charged with six runs (three earned) on eight hits and a pair of homers over six frames to fall to 3-6. The Detroit attack consisted of ten hits and a pair of free passes with Jose Iglesias going 2-4 with an RBI and run with Mike Aviles scoring twice while Cameron Maybin drove in a run and scored two times. Rookie Michael Fulmer gets 6th start of the season when the Tigers visit Oakland. Fulmer comes off his best start in a 5-4 win versus Tampa Bay with a run scored on four hits and eleven K’s over seven innings.

The Oakland Athletics have been in need of a turnaround and the past week has not been favorable with defeats in six of seven. The Athletics are coming off of a 13-3 loss at Seattle where the Mariners led early and never looked back. A’s starter Zach Neal gave up seven runs on eight hits including two homers through four frames with Andrew Triggs allowing five late runs. Oakland mustered ten hits with Khris Davis going solo while Coco Crisp and Billy Burns drove in runs. Rookie Sean Manaea draws the series opening start against the visiting Tigers Friday night. Manaea comes off of a 5-1 loss to the Yankees with all five runs allowed on six hits in 6.2 frames.
Detroit are 2-8 in their last 10 road games and are 8-2 in their last 10 overall while going 8-2 in their last 10 games on grass.
