On Wednesday, the Chicago White Sox and the New York Mets will be kicking off June with a series finale at Citi Field.
This will be the third of a three-game set. In Monday’s opener, the Mets edged out the Sox 1-0. On Tuesday, the White Sox secured a 6-4 win, out-hitting New York 9-8.
USA TODAY Sports
The White Sox will be whipping out right-hander Miguel Gonzalez on Wednesday for the start. Over his five games and 0-1 record this year, Gonzalez has posted a 4.50 ERA with a 1.54 WHIP in 28 innings. Back on Friday, Gonzalez gave up three runs in 6.1 innings against the Royals.
The Chicago lineup boasts a pretty solid all-around group of hitters. Adam Eaton leads the way on 57 hits with 20 runs and 16 RBI. Melky Cabrera has 56 hits with 25 runs and 24 RBI this year. Todd Frazier has a team-high 16 homers with 37 RBI but is hitting just .219 thus far. Frazier popped a two-run homer on Tuesday to help Chicago get the win.
The Mets will be countering with right-hander Jacob deGrom on Wednesday. In eight starts and a 3-1 record this season, deGrom holds a 2.81 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP in 48 innings. On Friday against the Dodgers, deGrom was great in seven innings of one-run ball.
At the plate, the New York batting order is pretty top-heavy. Asdrubal Cabrera has 51 hits with 16 runs and 18 RBI. Yoenis Cespedes has a team-high 15 hoemrs with 37 RBI and 31 runs. Neil Walker is right there as well on 49 hits with 23 runs, 13 homers and 25 RBI to his credit. Walker managed a two-run homer on Tuesday.
The White Sox are 0-4 in their last four Wednesday games, and 1-6 in their last seven road games.
As for the Mets, they’re 4-1 in their last five Wednesday games, and 4-1 in deGrom’s last five Wednesday starts.
With the way deGrom has been throwing this year, I can’t find a reason to pick against the Mets. I’ll take New York for the victory here.
