The San Francisco Giants visit Busch Stadium to open a series with the St. Louis Cardinals.
The San Francisco Giants look like the team to beat in the National League West although it’s far too early to hand them the title. The Giants winning ways continued with a 6-0 victory at Atlanta Thursday for their 8th win in eleven contests. SF starter Madison Bumgarner was at his best with a four hit shutout over 7.2 frames while striking out eleven. The Giants logged eight hits and walked five times with Bumgarner, Joe Panik and Buster Posey each going deep and knocking in two runs apiece. A surging Johnny Cueto is scheduled to face the Cardinals in the series opener. Over his last five outings Cueto has allowed just four runs with a pair of shutouts and two complete games.

The St. Louis Cardinals find themselves battling the Pirates for second in the National League Central with the Cubs threatening to run away with the division. The Cardinals are winners in four of six but missed out on a road sweep of Milwaukee after a 3-1 defeat at Miller Park on Wednesday. Cards starter Jaime Garcia gave up two runs in the first and finished with five hits and three BB given up through five innings to fall to 4-5. St. Louis was held to four hits and struck out ten times with the lone run coming off the bat of Brandon Moss who smacked his 10th homer in the 9th. Adam Wainwright toes the rubber against San Francisco for the first time since 2014. Wainwright comes off a 9-4 win at Washington with all four runs allowed on three homers in seven frames.
San Francisco are 10-3 in their last 13 road games and are 16-5 in their last 21 overall while going 16-5 in their last 21 games on grass. The over is 10-4 in the Cardinals last 14 overall and the over is 10-4 in their last 14 on grass while going 18-7-2 in Wainwright’s last 27 Friday starts. This might be better to watch then anything else but I’ll go with Cueto and the Giants bats…
