The Tampa Bay Rays snapped out of their ugly losing skid last night and they will look to keep it going against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday.
The Rays needed a trip to Target Field to get back in the win column after an ugly 2-8 stretch and with the win yesterday they are 22-30 on the year and still have a ways to go before they can even be considered a threat to claim a wild card spot. Tampa Bay does have a decent roster and were expected to stay competitive thanks to their rotation but a struggling season from Chris Archer and injuries to some others has them in a tough spot right now and need their front end to improve if they are going to salvage the season by the all-star break. Tampa will send out Matt Andriese in this one and he has been brilliant with a 3-0 record and 2.36 ERA and he will match up against Ervin Santana who is a disappointing 1-4 with a 4.12 mark.

The Twins have struggled out of the gate and don’t look like they’re going to make things better any time soon as they are a very disappointing 16-37 heading into today’s game. Minnesota does have some nice prospects waiting in the wings but they haven’t been able to get any consistency out of former top prospect Byron Buxton and now Miguel Sano is on the DL which makes things even more difficult for them as they don’t have a ton of offensive weapons. The Twins are bound to win a hefty number of games based solely on the size of the schedule but against the Rays in this spot I don’t see how they do as the pitching edge lies with the road team.
The Rays are 4-1 in their last five Saturday games, 1-4 in their last five road games, and 1-6 in their last seven against the AL Central while the Twins are 15-37 in their last 52 following a loss, 3-12 in their last 15 home games, and 2-10 in their last 12 against the AL East. Tampa is the better of the two teams and with Andriese appearing to be on track for a big season I think the Rays get it done for the second straight day.
