The Texas Rangers look to lay a beat down on the Seattle Mariners on Sunday and follow suit on yesterday’s performance at home in this battle of AL West rivals.
The Mariners look to get back in the win column after a tough night in Texas last night and they will send Hisashi Iwakuma to the bump who will look for his fifth win of the season as he matches up against Derek Holland. The M’s have made a ton of moves over the few seasons in an attempt to jump to the top of the AL West standings and while it has taken some time for them to take shape this could be the season they end their playoff drought and a strong outing Sunday against their biggest threat could go a long way in getting them there. Seattle is led by Robinson Cano who is having his best season since leaving New York and if the bats and rotation can step up to meet his level they will be a tough team to slow down in September and October.

The Rangers meanwhile are probably the most complete team in the AL West and they demonstrated that last night with a nice display of power and continued their impressive start on the mound. Texas has a ton of weapons at the plate and after a divisional series exit against the Toronto Blue Jays last season you can be sure they have added incentive to not only get back to the playoffs but to get back to the World Series as they have become one of the most consistent teams in the American League over the last few seasons.
Seattle is 8-3 in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record, 1-4 in their last five Sunday games, and 9-1 in Iwakuma’s last 10 against a team with a winning record while the Rangers are 6-1 in their last seven against the AL West, 5-1 in their last six overall, and 6-2 in their last eight during game three of a series. The Rangers are the better team but I think the M’s get one back here as Holland has struggled and Iwakuma should give Seattle the edge on the mound.
