The Arizona Diamondbacks look for a repeat effort on Wednesday night as they face off against the Tampa Bay Rays at home.
The Rays head into Wednesday night’s game sitting in dead last in the AL East division standings and things don’t get any easier for them as they face off against young phenom Archie Bradley who looks to be settling into the starting rotation after a couple of tumultuous seasons up and down from the minors. The Rays are 5-5 in their last 10 games and are 26-30 on the season and while they aren’t out of the playoff race by any stretch they certainly aren’t making any waves right now as their top end pitchers have struggled and their modest lineup hasn’t been able to make up for it. Jake Odorizzi will get the start tonight as he brings a 2-3 record and a 3.32 ERA into Chase Field as he matches up with Bradley who is 2-1 with a 4.95 mark but is prone to high strikeout outings and can match up well with the Rays lineup.

Arizona is still a very disappointing nine games under the .500 mark and are quickly playing themselves out of a playoff spot in the National League West as they are just 4-6 in their last 10 overall and 25-35 on the season. The D-Backs are without AJ Pollock whose presence certainly would have made a difference for them this season and while it is still too early to call this year a write off I think most are already looking ahead to when the team has a full roster. However, they are in a good spot here as they do match up well with the Rays and have a shot with Archie Bradley on the mound who could go pitch for pitch with Odorizzi.
The Rays are 19-7 in their last 26 interleague matchups against a righty, 2-6 in their last eight on a Wednesday, and 10-4 in their last 14 interleague games while the Diamondbacks are 3-14 in their last 17 Wednesday games, 1-5 in their last six interleague games, and 2-6 in their last eight overall. Tampa to me has the edge on the mound and while they were pasted last night I think they rebound here with a big road win.
