The New York Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates continue their series at PNC Park on Wednesday.
The New York Mets know every game is crucial if they want to overcome Washington and capture another NL East crown. The last thing the Mets needed was to lose a doubleheader and that’s what happened at Pittsburgh Tuesday. New York obviously isn’t going to push the panic button so early in the year but they do have some injury problems which is hurting them on the scoreboard which puts a great deal of pressure on an above average rotation and that will eventually need to change at some point. The Mets go with Noah Syndergaard in game three of their series at Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Syndergaard comes off of a 6-2 win at Miami with both runs plated on six hits while whiffing nine in seven innings.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have been struggling the past two weeks and need to change that to have any chance of chasing down the Cubs in the NL Central. After dropping seven of ten the Pirates really needed a spark and found it when they swept a twin bill versus the Mets where a few clutch hits in each game and outstanding work on the mound were key. The Buccos have shown the ability to score runs but I wonder if their pitching from top to bottom is as strong as it’s been in previous seasons which will ultimately decide their fate. The Pirates hand the ball to Francisco Liriano who has been a bit up and down thus far. Liriano has struggled the past two times out with eleven earned runs scored on 16 hits and eight BB in 9.1 frames.
The over is 12-5 in the Mets last 17 Wednesday games and is 8-3-1 in Syndergaard’s last 12 road starts. The over is 7-1 in Pittsburgh’s last 8 home games and the Pirates are 6-2 in their last 8 home games while the over is 5-2-1 in their last 8 Wednesday games. Syndergaard might have to throw a complete game shutout and hit a homerun to win…
