The Chicago Cubs continue their road trip with a visit to Turner Field to face the Atlanta Braves.
The Chicago Cubs are the kings of the National League Central and have yet to face a slump of any length. The Cubbies have won seven of ten following an 8-1 win at Philadelphia on Wednesday. Cubbies starter John Lackey was dominant with three hits given up over seven scoreless frames while whiffing eight. The Chicago bats racked up 13 hits and walked twice with Ben Zobrist going solo and scoring twice while Kris Bryant homered with a pair of RBI’s and two runs. Javier Baez went 4-4 with three RBI as every starter but one reached base. Jason Hammel shoots for his 8th victory on the road when he faces the Braves on Friday. Hammel defeated Arizona last time out with two runs given up on just one hit and a pair of BB over seven innings.

The Atlanta Braves record tells the story of the season so far as they do have some offensive issues that are hurting them. The Braves have dropped seven of ten despite Wednesday’s 4-2 victory at San Diego. Bravos starter Julio Teheran improved to 2-6 with both runs allowed on solo homers through eight innings to lower his ERA to 2.85. The Atlanta offense amassed 14 hits and walked three times with Chase d’Arnaud going 3-5 with an RBI and run while Ender Inciarte was 3-5 and scored twice. The Braves are slated to send Bud Norris to the hill to open the series with the Cubs. Norris comes off of a 4-0 loss to Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers with a run given up on three hits and four BB in five frames.
The under is 10-3 in Cubs last 13 overall and is 10-3 in their last 13 on grass while Chicago are 16-5 in their last 21 Friday games. Atlanta are 15-38 in their last 53 home games and are 17-42 in their last 59 overall while going 17-42 in their last 59 games on grass. Chicago are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings and are 2-8 in the last 10 meetings in Atlanta. If the Cubs are the best team in the game then this looks like a good spot to prove it….
