The Washington Nationals host the Philadelphia Phillies in their series opener Friday.
The Philadelphia Phillies were putting some pressure on the Nationals for the top spot in the National League East but have since fallen off the pace with losses in seven of ten. The Phillies come off an 8-1 loss to the Cubs Wednesday which was costly with starter Vincent Velesquez leaving with a sore bicep after 1/3 of an inning. Four relievers finished but Andrew Bailey and Colton Murray were charged with seven runs. That was too much for the Phils with the bats producing three hits and a base on balls with Cesar Hernandez doubling in Tommy Joseph. Jeremy Hellickson will be on the mound to oppose the Nationals for the 4th time in 2016. Hellickson comes off a 6-3 loss to Milwaukee (ND) with three runs scored on seven hits and three BB over five innings.

Washington mustered five hits and didn’t walk with Daniel Murphy accounting for the only run with a 5th inning solo jack. The Nationals open the series on the mound with veteran Stephen Strasburg Friday. Strasburg did not get a decision in a 6-3 loss at Cincinnati with three runs plated on four hits in 5.1 frames.

The over is 7-2-1 in Washington’s last 10 Friday games and the Nationals are 7-2 in their last 9 overall while going 7-2 in their last 9 games on grass. Strasburg left is last start with a calf problem but I like him if he is 100%...
