The San Diego Padres look to send the home town Colorado Rockies to another loss as the NL West rivals meet up on Saturday.
The Padres recorded a rare road victory in Colorado last night and will look for a repeat effort on the road once again at Coors Field on Saturday as they send Erik Johnson to the mound to face off against Tyler Chatwood. The Padres are seemingly at the beginning of a rebuilding phase as they have moved on from Justin Upton and sent James Shields to the White Sox earlier this week and while they still have the likes of Matt Kemp and Wil Myers patrolling the outfield they will need a lot more than that to keep up with the big dogs of the NL West. San Diego is 25-36 on the year and 5-5 in their last 10 while the Rockies are 28-32 with a similar 5-5 stretch in their last 10 contests.

The Rockies will look to rebound after a sluggish effort last night as their struggle at Coors Field continues as they are now just 10-16 at home this season with opposing teams teeing off with the high altitude. The Rockies offense should carry them to more than enough victories to challenge for a playoff spot but their rotation isn’t good enough to compete for the NL West crown and until they can get something more than CHatwood they are in big trouble. Luckily for them though they get their best pitcher going today who faces off against a light hitting Padres side that could be in over their heads after a win yesterday.
The Padres are 17-35 in their last 52 road games, 3-7 in their last 10 against the NL West, and 0-8 in their last eight road games against a righty while the Rockies are 4-1 in their last five overall, 5-13 in their last 18 Saturday games and 4-1 in Chatwood’s last five starts. San Diego got their win last night and while the Rockies have been dreadful at home I think they show up here behind another solid outing from Chatwood.
