The Houston Astros visit to Tropicana Field and the Tampa Bay Rays continues Saturday.
The Houston Astros were red hot a week or so ago but have shown signs of slowing. The Astros slowdown continued in a 4-3 loss at Tropicana Field Friday which saddled the team with defeats in in four of five. Stros starter Lance McCullers fell to 3-2 with all four runs allowed on seven hits and four free passes over six frames. Houston logged eleven hits and six walks with Jason Castro drilling a two run bomb while Tyler White drove in a run and scored. Mike Fiers takes the ball from the Astros for his first career match up with Tampa Bay. Fiers struggled last time out with four runs given up on eight hits of a 6-5 loss at the Rangers.

The Tampa Bay Rays have been playing their best baseball of the season and whether it continues is a wait and see scenario. The Rays stayed hot with Friday’s nail biter where the bats did just enough to support strong pitching. TB starter Matt Andriese upped his record to 5-0 with all three runs given up on eight hits and four BB through 5.1 innings while three relievers put up zeros. The Rays attack consisted of eight hits and walked five times with Steve Pearce going 3-4 with a pair of RBI’s while Logan Forsythe knocked in a run and scored. Chris Archer shoots for back to when he gets the starting nod versus visiting Houston Saturday. Archer comes off of a 6-4 win at Arizona where he was charged with all four runs on five hits and three BB while whiffing 12 in six frames.
Houston are 7-19 in their last 26 games on astroturf and are 12-5 in their last 17 overall while the over is 12-3-1 in Fiers' last 16 starts overall. The over is 20-7-2 in Tampa Bay’s last 29 overall and the under is 17-7-1 in their last 25 home games while the over is 9-4 in their last 13 on astroturf. Houston are 6-20 in the last 26 meetings and the under is 22-8-2 in the last 32 meetings. Archer has been disappointing but I’ll give him the edge here…
