The Houston Astros end their series with the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night.

The Houston Astros are just trying to reach .500 and have been stumbling a bit lately. The Astros had dropped five of seven but came up big Tuesday in a 5-2 win at Busch Stadium. Stros starter Doug Fister gave up both runs on solo jacks over 7.1 frames to grab the win with three relievers holding the Cardinals off the scoreboard. Houston did their damage on nine hits with Colby Rasmus going deep and scoring twice while Fister drove in two and Carlos Gomez scoring three times. Houston sends Collin McHugh to the bump to face the Cardinals for the first time since 2014. McHugh comes off a 5-3 loss at Texas with four runs plated on seven hits over 3.2 innings.

USA TODAY Sports

The St. Louis Cardinals have found the groove and overtaken the Pirates for second in the National League Central. The red hot Cardinals cooled off for the night but have still won seven of nine and lost a game in the standings with the Pirates and Cubs both winning. Redbirds starter Jaime Garcia was charged with the loss with four runs plated (three earned) on eight hits through 6.1 innings. The Cards totaled six hits with Brandon Moss and  Matt  Adams smacking solo homers. Adam Waiinwright is slated to be on the mound to match up with the Astros Wednesday,. Wainwright did not get a decision in a 3-2 win at Cincinnati where he gave up both runs on two hits and a walk in six frames.

Houston are 20-7 in their last 27 interleague games and  are 12-5 in their last 17 games on grass while going are 36-17 in McHugh’s last 53 starts on grass. The over is 8-2 in the Cardinals last 10 home games and the under is 15-5-2 in their last 22 interleague games while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 on grass. The Astros are 9-24 in the last 32 meetings. I think Wainwright is beginning to round in to form so…
