The Boston Red Sox look for another pivotal victory as they continue their AL East division show down with the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway on Thursday night.
The Orioles came into Fenway looking to make a statement and through the first two games they certainly did but last night it was the Red Sox who got once back and will be out for an encore on Thursday. The O’s got a big effort from Chris Tillman on Tuesday but they are sending Tyler Wilson to the mound on Thursday as he will face off against Eduardo Rodriguez in what isn’t the greatest pitching match up we have seen but could be a nice draw for the fans as these two teams can smash baseballs and we should see a number of souvenirs reach the seats. Baltimore is 6-4 in their last 10 games but are 13-15 on the road this season and need to rectify their woes away from home if they’re going to have any success moving forward in the playoff chase.

The Red Sox meanwhile made up a game on the O’s in the AL East standings and sit just a game behind them heading into Thursday night’s contest where the home side will look for their 20th win of the season at Fenway Park. Boston is loaded across the board when it comes to their lineup as guys like Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, and of course the ageless David Ortiz have them leading the league in runs scored this season and could be on pace to be last year’s Toronto Blue Jays when it comes to offensive proficiency. Boston though may need to add another arm to their rotation in the home stretch as David Price and Steven Wright need some help and while Rodriguez has been serviceable he isn’t a front end guy by any means.
Baltimore is 10-3 in their last 13 Thursday games, 4-1 in Wilson’s last five road starts, and 9-4 in their last 13 overall while the Red Sox are 2-6 in their last eight Thursday games, 8-2 in Rodriguez’ last 10 home starts, and 1-4 in their last five at Fenway. The O’s have knocked the Sox around a bit in this series and while Boston got one back I think Baltimore finishes off the series and grab a win tonight.
