The Pittsburgh Pirates look to leave the Big Apple with a win versus the New York Mets Thursday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have been in a week long funk and that has dropped them to third in the National League Central. After winning five in a row the Pirates have dropped back to back contests following an 11-2 defeat at Citi Field Wednesday. Buccos starter Jeff Locke was charged with seven runs on nine hits over four frames with Rob Scahill allowing three more. The Pirates were held to five hits with John Jaso going 3-4 with a double and a run. Juan Nicasio is slated to take the hill against the Mets for the second straight time. Nicasio defeated New York 3-1 with the lone run scored on three hits and a pair of BB over five innings.

The New York Mets are holding on to second in the National League East although they are not playing well. The Mets reversed that trend for at least one night that ended a three game skid on Wednesday night. Everything went favorably for New York with starter Noah Syndergaard getting plenty of support although he didn’t need it with both runs plated on five hits and eleven K’s through 8.1 innings. The NYM racked up 19 hits with Wilmer Flores going 2-5 with a homer, five RBI’s and two runs. Kelly Johnson also went deep with two runs driven in while Matt Reynolds and Rene Rivera also knocked in two runs. Veteran Bartolo Colon gets the ball in the series finale’ versus visiting Pittsburgh. Colon defeated Milwaukee 5-2 on the road last time out with a run scored on eight hits in seven frames.
The Mets are 3-9 in Colon’s last 12 home starts and the under is 6-2-1 in Colon’s last 9 home starts. The Pirates are 18-5 in the last 23 meetings. The Mets haven’t done well in this match up but I’ll give them the nod here…
