The Detroit Tigers look to rebound after a tough loss against the Kansas City Royals on Friday night as the AL Central rivals meet up again on Saturday.
The Tigers had ample opportunity to get a win on the road at Kauffman Stadium yesterday as they send Michael Fulmer to the bump, and while he had another strong outing they couldn’t hold on for a win as the bullpen let them down. Detroit has one of the most potent offenses in baseball and while they were just dealt a serious blow by losing JD Martinez they still have Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez, and Justin Upton among others and they should be considered one of the favourites to win the AL Central this season. Detroit will send Matt Boyd to the bump who is 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA as he will go up against Edinson Volquez who is 6-6 with a 4.01 mark.

The Royals got back in the win column after an ugly stretch had them reeling in the AL Central standings and while they are on the mend with a 6-4 stretch in their last 10 games they still have some work to do to get caught up and back in the good graces of the MLB leaders. KC has had to deal with a handful of injuries themselves but they have responded nicely of late they may need to add a piece or two at the deadline as they are missing the pop of Ben Zobrist and Mike Moustaksas who were two big parts of their championship team from a year ago.
Detroit is 5-1 in their last six following a loss, 1-4 in Boyd’s last five starts, and 0-7 in his last seven road starts while the Royals are 5-1 in their last six against a lefty, 58-24 in their last 82 home games, and 20-6 in Volquez’ last 26 home starts. KC has the edge here on the mound and while Detroit has the power I think KC gets another win here after last night’s triumph.
