The Detroit Tigers look to get back in the win column after a couple of losses on the road to the KC Royals as the teams meet up on Sunday at Kauffman Stadium.
The Tigers head into Sunday’s game with the Royals sitting in third place in the AL Central with a 34-34 record and trail the Royals by two games for second place and the Cleveland Indians for first by 3.5 but they do get Jordan Zimmermann on the bump here who has had a pretty solid start to the year. Detroit has one of the bets lineups in baseball when it comes to offensive production but they were dealt a serious blow when they lost JD Martinez to a broken arm and he will likely be done for the season as details about the severity continue to pour out. Detroit though needs to stay focused on what they can control and despite not playing at a high level for most of the season they are still very much in the thick of things and could still run away with the division.

The Royals meanwhile look to be back on track as they are 6-4 in their last 10 games and have started to regain their World Series form from a season ago and while there is still plenty to work on they should be back in contention to claim the AL Central crown. Kansas City does have issues in the rotation though and they will be without Yordano Ventura for eight games which makes things even tougher to sort out and if they can’t generate production from within they won’t hesitate to go out and gran a top end arm via a trade. The Royals have been playing well of late though and while they have to deal with Zimmermann here they have a good shot to get a win.
The Tigers are 5-0 in Zimmermann’s last five starts against the AL Central, 4-1 in his last five road starts, and 11-3 in their last 14 against a team with a winning record while the Royals are 6-1 in their last seven overall, 6-1 in their last seven against the AL Central, and 11-3 in their last 14 in a fourth game of a series. Detroit needs a big time win here against a division rival and while Zimm could be do for a blow up I will side with him here.
